sprung

Friday, March 15, 2013

Spring has sprung in LA and brought with it the night-blooming jasmine that never fails to thrill me. Is anyone else out there equally as fired up about the intoxicating aroma of those lovelies? Every night I practically hyperventilate trying to suck in more more more of that heady fragrance while it's in season. And when the windows are wide open and I can smell it inside the house too? Heaven! I'm constantly saying to David, "OMGTHOSEFLOWERS!!!" He doesn't even hear me say it anymore.

After lots of wonderful birthday hoopla last week and crazy pilot season hoopla in general, this week has been a bit of a nice lull. I'm catching up on random errands like getting clocks repaired and ordering vitamins and washing dog beds and knitting baby hats for pregnant friends. There's something nice about going back to the mundane after a big dose of excitement. Even if the excitement is perfect. It's all about the balance I suppose. Lena is an amazing reminder to me about finding joy in the mundane. I walk her at least twice a day, everyday, and the newness that she finds in the same exact route is staggering. Her favorite daily game is to bury her head (and sometimes half her body) in this one particular bush and hunt inside for pinecones that fall from the fir tree above. She shops around for a while in there and once she finds the perfect one (she's very picky), she drops it at my feet for me to kick so she can run after it like a ball. Or stop it like a goalie with her super-fast feet. And she does all this every day with the fervor of her first time. It's remarkable. Her quirks crack me up. One thing that's absolutely not part of her daily walking routine? Photo shoots. She was pretty impatient with me, despite her cuteness in these snaps.

Happy Spring................

  1. Terrific photographs. Spring has definitely sprung around here but jasmine is still weeks away from blooming. Got a trellis of it next to the window and cannot wait. Between the yard and local parks there is a lot to see and photograph, even with the lack of rain this year.

  2. Oh, Miss Lena has warmed my heart today. Thank you for the pictures and story. I said goodbye to my old friend on Friday (http://www.flickr.com/photos/23615787@N02/8561373082/in/photostream.) A walk with Lena was just what I needed today.
